UNIMAID: STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT GENERAL ELECTION 2023.

By Esther John Dari.

Like a once in the history of the University of Maiduguri, the students union government campaigns and rallies for the general election which will hold on 26 May 2023 have turned into a massive social day that had ever seen on campus since the banned of social activities in 2021 by the vice chancellor professor Aliyu Shugaba.

The most interesting thing about the 2023 students union government campaigns is the maximum cooperation by the students in support of their choice of candidates and the kind of enthusiasm attached to it, it’s so amazing. it has been long that the University students of Maiduguri exercise their happiness again since 2021 till date, particularly during the SUG election campaigns.

undergraduates at the rallies spot, express their emotions about the ongoing election process.

Juliet James a final year student said” I’m very happy today which can be recorded as my happiest day in the University of Maiduguri since the entrance session of 2018 to 2023, because of the too much academic performance without leisure activities such as cultural dances, games, theater arts exhibit, among others which make Jack a dull boy”.
In Addition, some students could not even feel the tension of the multiple assessments that engulfed them or the approaching examination due to the overjoyed moments of Student union government rallies for the upcoming election.

Aminat Yusuf a 300-level student state that “It seems unusual for one to remember that he or she is the property of the University of Maiduguri, because of the kind of struggles with books, research, and assignments, few but not to mention, it’s making me at a time to leave school. She added that there are no social activities that can motivate students to sweat and brain instead hardship trauma kills the passion for academics.

The SUG candidate Mr. Umar Ali Adam Social Director said, “Ensuring peace and socialization among the students is the priority of my contest for this position. however, observation of the student’s jubilations and support during rallies motivate my mission of “giving liberty to rebrand our socials” towards the position of social director, on contrary there is a need for the SUG to bring back the social activities on the campus again because to my observation so far students of the university of Maiduguri requires leisures activities that can motivate and ginger their endeavors towards studies”. That’s to say even in the academic field there are social moments for students to catch fun for once.

SUG general election campaigns can be described as two ways phenomenon which is the combination of rallies and the refreshing Memories of the undergraduates on campus after quite some years.

MAIDUGURI IS POLLUTED….

By Faiza jibrin

Pollution being seen as unhygienic and improper condition has been the basic and tremendous issue affecting most of the streets in Maiduguri, which causes a lot of challenges in human life in the city.

Among the places in the city, they were almost dominated by this brash behavior among the people living in that area. A person will dispose of a waste products in such a place that they do not suppose to dumb. Having looking at the situation of many places around the city places like Dala, Baga road, Shuwari I & II, London ciki, Gwange, Gomari, and Bolori area among others are mostly large streets that have sub streets within them likely to be the most polluted environment in Maiduguri.

Therefore, those above mentioned places around the city would have seen as unhygienic environment, due to the sense that in terms of large population, diverse believe, different sort of people with different perception will cause a lot of healthy attack with such situations, especially during the rainy season that is approaching to stand. After looking thoroughly to those places found that many of the people in those area have lack of awareness, environmental bodies, and Governmental agencies, though there are Borno State Environmental Pollution Agency (BOSEPA) who work all days to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of all places, among the place like Dala some people even spoke on the issue.

In an interview with an anonymous leader, she state that; environmental pollution such as air pollution is one of the most harmful effect which leads to illnesses in Maiduguri, such diseases include cholera through contaminated water, polluting the air through dumping of refuge in the wrong places like drainage, and defecating along side the road which are usually done by the almajiri’s and does who still find it hard to construct a toilet in their various home. Furthermore, she buttressed that environmental pollution does not only affect human life but also government social amenities include erosion, road damage, drainage blockage, filled gutters among others.

there are many ways and precautions to follow to avoid such things in the society which include taking effective decision and law enforcement by the government and then taking part in responsible for the cleanliness of their environment everywhere in Maiduguri by the societal membership for not dispose refuge, defecation, and also to ensure that practitioners dealing are responsible for such aspect, execute their duty properly by doing surveying, monitoring, sanitations, and conducting conferences and workshops to enlighten the public on the harmful effect of environmental pollution.

By such situations many people also talk on that matter and express their views towards their situation and unhealthy condition they’re with their younger ones, which they states that cholera will keep on disturbing their if they don’t stop dumping waste management into improper disposal.

I urge the government agencies on environment maintenance and management to highly look into consideration and put more efforts by ensuring they work perfectly and thoroughly with the issue and bring some Professional Doctors on environment for their healthy and safety measures in the state at large as this has to do with health matters and may likely to kill.

International Museum Day 2023 “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing”

Museums are key contributors to the wellbeing and to the sustainable development of our communities. As trusted institutions and important threads in our shared social fabric, they are uniquely placed to create a cascading effect to foster positive change. There are many ways in which museums can contribute to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals: from supporting climate action and fostering inclusivity, to tackling social isolation and improving mental health.

As highlighted in the ICOM Resolution “On sustainability and the implementation of Agenda 2030, Transforming our World” (Kyoto, 2019), all museums have a role to play in shaping and creating sustainable futures, and they can do this through educational programmes, exhibitions, community outreach and research.

Each year since 2020, the International Museum Day supports a set of Goals from the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In 2023, we will focus on:

Goal 3 Global Health and Wellbeing: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, in particular concerning mental health and social isolation.

Goal 13 Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, adopting low-carbon practices in the Global North and mitigation strategies in the Global South.

Goal 15 Life on Land: Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, amplifying the voices of indigenous leaders and raising awareness on the loss of biodiversity.

On May 18th, we encourage all members of the civil society to come together and realise the full transformative potential that museums have for sustainable development and wellbeing.

THE ROLE OF PARENT IN IMPROVING CHILD’S EDUCATION IN NIGERIA.

By faith john

Education is an essential tool for the development of individuals, society and nations, and it is widely accepted that the foundation of a child’s education starts at home. Parents play a crucial role in shaping the academic, social, and emotional development of their children.

In Nigeria, today where the education system is facing several challenges, parental involvement in education can play a significant role in improving education and promoting good morals amongst their wards.

KT Digital

Parents are the primary educators of their children and their involvement in their children’s education can have a considerable impact on their academic performance. Studies have shown that children whose parents are involved in their education tend to perform better academically, have better attendance records, and are more likely to graduate with good grades from school.

One of the ways parents can be involved in their children’s education is by creating a supportive home environment. Parents can create an environment that promotes learning by providing a quiet space for their children to study, setting aside time for homework, and encouraging their children to read. Parents can also help their children develop good study habits, such as time management and organization skills.

Another way parents can be involved in their children’s education is by communicating with their children about the challanges of children’s academic progress, and discuss ways to support their children’s learning by supporting them in any way possible.

Furthermore, parents can be involved in school activities and volunteer their time to support their children’s school. Parents can attend school events, and volunteer to help by giving funds for school activities such as field trips and school projects. By being involved in school activities, parents can support their children’s learning and help to create a positive learning environment.

KT Digital

I urge all parents and guardians to try and get involved in their children life by working together with the children, knowing his/her peers, teachers, and schools to create a learning environment that promotes academic success and helps children achieve their full potential.

Although report has shown that the covid 19 Pandemic has also done more harm than good as it has contributed tremendously in children school dropout this may be related to 2020 when most countries announced the temporary closure of schools imparting close to 1.6 billion children and youth as out of school.

Among the reasons that led to school drop out may include Academic difficulties, family’s economic needs, Death of parents, unlimited exposure to alcohol drugs, early marriage among girls bad companies among others.
